Marsh Sport are the appointed insurance broker to the British American Football Association (BAFA). This web page sets out details of the insurance provided as part of your membership, and how to report an incident.

British American Football Association (BAFA) announces strategic development initiative with Marsh Sport

BAFA is pleased to announce a three-year extension working with Marsh, a global leader in insurance broking and risk management.

Marsh will continue to arrange a tailored insurance scheme to our members, ensuring peace of mind for players, coaches, officials, and teams. 

Additionally, Marsh will provide expertise and resources to bolster BAFA’s focus on Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), alongside essential risk management services, supporting the organisation's growth as a National Governing Body (NGB).

This agreement comes at a pivotal time for BAFA, as Britball gains momentum on the international stage across all forms of the game and with the GB Flag teams focused on securing qualification for the upcoming Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028.

Chad Ehlertsen, BAFA CEO, stated: "This initiative reflects our commitment to not only providing robust support for our members but also fostering long-term relationships with organisations that share our vision for growth, inclusivity, and success. Who is covered?

This cover only applies to registered members of the BAFA.

  • Players
  • Coaches
  • Clubs

When does cover operate?

  • For all activities relating to American Football recognised / authorised by BAFA.
  • The annual policies run from 01 October to 30 September each year.

What are the insurance benefits?

As part of your membership to British American Football Association, you automatically receive the benefit of the association’s Public Liability and Group Personal Accident insurance.

Insurance covers included

Cover for clubs and/or members if they are found to be legally responsible for causing bodily injury to third party (such as a member of the public or another member) or for damage to a third party’s property.

Provides cover in respect of claims made against the BAFA affiliated club for injuries caused to an employee of the club arising out of and in the course of their such employment (including volunteers).

Cover to protect a BAFA affiliated club or coach for claims made against them which allege that a third party has suffered an injury or financial loss caused by a negligent acts, errors or omissions during coaching activities.

Provides cover for claims made directly against individuals at a BAFA affiliated club e.g. officer, committee member, director and/or trustee for alleged wrongful acts in connection with the club affairs.

Cover for members if they are accidentally injured when participating in a sanctioned activity or event, or whilst taking part in a club organised training activity. The covers also apply during a club organised social event.

Making a claim

Personal Accident Claims:

To make a personal accident claim, you must complete the personal accident form and return this to Aviva Insurance :-

Liability Claims:

It is important that all incidents that may give rise to a claim, however minor, are reported to Marsh Sport as soon as possible after the event.
