Introduction

Marsh Sport are the appointed insurance broker to Hockey Wales. This webpage sets out details of the insurance provided as part of your membership, how to report an incident, and some frequently asked questions.

Hockey Wales insurance cover

As part of your membership to Hockey Wales you automatically receive the benefit of the association’s Public Liability and Group Personal Accident insurance.

When does cover operate?

Both the Liability and Personal Accident insurance apply when a member of Hockey Wales is participating in sanctioned club activities.

Hockey Wales annual policies run from 1 December to 30 November.

The cover explained

In simple terms, the Liability insurance policies will cover

  • Public liability. Cover for clubs and/or members if they are found to be legally responsible for causing bodily injury to third party (such as a member of the public or another member) or for damage to a third party’s property.
  • Professional indemnity. Cover provides protection in respect of claims made by an injured party which are a direct result of the advice given by qualified coaches.
  • Employers liability. Provides cover in respect of claims made against the Hockey Wales affiliated club for injuries caused to an employee of the club arising out of and in the course of their such employment (including volunteers).

The policy limits are as follows:

  • Public liability – cover for your legal liability of up to £10,000,000.
  • Professional indemnity – cover for the club’s or coach's legal liability of up to £10,000,000.
  • Employers liability – cover for your legal liability of up to £10,000,000.

Cover is provided for accident injury caused whilst the insured person is training, playing or officiating for the insured, including travelling directly to or directly back from events organised by the insured.

There are two categories of insured persons:

  1. Category A - Any coaches, players, officials, umpires, and volunteer members of the insured over 17 years of age.
  2. Category B - Youth players of the insured under 17 years of age.

Making a claim

It is important that all incidents that may give rise to a claim, however minor, are reported to Marsh Sport (Hockey Wales insurance broker) as soon as possible after the event.
