Introduction

As part of your membership with the British Stand-Up Paddleboard Association (BSUPA) you automatically receive the benefit of the association’s Combined Liability insurance.

This web page provides an overview of how these policies benefit members and can offer guidance in respect of the insurance policies provided. Cover is in respect of official activities organised, arranged and sanctioned by the British Stand-Up Paddleboard Association and their affiliated Coaches/Instructors

Cover for your legal liability of up to £5,000,000 any one occurrence. This insurance provides protection against legal liability for bodily injury to third parties and damage to third party property.

Cover for your legal liability of up to £5,000,000 any one claim and in the aggregate. This insurance covers coaches and those in the role of committee members and officers for claims made against them which allege that a third party has suffered an injury or financial loss caused by negligent acts, errors or omissions during coaching activities. 

Reporting an incident

It is important that all incidents that may give rise to a claim, however minor, are reported to our insurance broker Marsh Sport as soon as possible after the event.

You should not admit liability under any circumstances as the insurers will respond to all allegations on your behalf.

Frequently asked questions

Liability cover is provided on a Worldwide basis excluding the United States of America and Canada, their territories, possessions, dependencies or protectorates. However, the membership insurance does not include Travel Insurance, which can be obtained here from Marsh Sport.

We recommend that a designated person is made responsible to record any reportable accident/incident. Records must be kept for at least 6 years, and longer where it involves a person under the age of 18 years. Names and addresses of any possible witnesses should also be recorded. Please ensure your club has an accident book to record all such information. In respect of Safeguarding allegations records should be kept indefinitely.

Yes, the public liability insurance provided will defend your position, should you be sued for injury to a third party or damage to a third parties property. Please note any claims relating to deliberate or criminal acts are excluded.

If you are acting as a Sole Trader, you receive Public Liability up to £5,000,000 and Professional Indemnity (coaching and tuition cover) up to £5,000,000. Please note this cover is in respect of Sole Traders only and does not extend to Limited Companies or Schools operating with employees.
