Motorsport UK membership benefits

Motorsport UK insurance policies provide cover in respect of public liability and personal accident risks. This cover only applies to all events held under permit or for which an exemption permit is granted.

  • Public liability is defined as any person injuring another or damaging another's property as a result of acting negligently, this may result in an action for compensation being brought against them.
  • Motorsport UK has arranged public liability insurance to protect clubs organising events against this potential legal liability.

  • Indemnity to the level of £100,000,000 for any one accident.
  • Indemnity to the level of £100,000,000 for the Club's Sports and Social clubs.
  • Costs of defending club against allegations are covered.
  • Cover protects an organising club and its officials.
  • Medical malpractice cover is included - see Terms and Conditions.

Marsh Sport together with Motorsport UK has extended the liability insurance to extend the activities from Motorsport UK permitted events to Motorsport UK affiliated club social activities. This is an excellent benefit to clubs and ensures there is a seamless cover in place between the staging of a club event and the social activities of the club.

The types of social activities, which are included, are of a non-motorsport nature such as:

  • Presentation and Award nights
  • Annual Dinners
  • Anniversary Dinners
  • Fundraising events
  • Attendance at exhibitions and conferences
  • Administrative duties
  • Static Displays

Please note there are certain exclusions attaching to this cover which your club must understand. These are:

  • Participation in motor sport activities of any kind whatsoever
  • Use of Pyrotechnics and Explosions
  • Overseas activities
  • Commercial activities for commercial gain excepting raffles, prize draws and the like
  • Employers Liability

This benefit is ideally targeted to Motorsport UK clubs who do not engage in commercial activities for financial gain or who do not organise and participate in non Motorsport UK permitted motor sport activities.

If you are in any doubt whatsoever concerning the extent of cover available to your club under this extension of cover please call Marsh Sport on 0345 872 5060 (Mon to Fri 9am to 5pm)

The duties of many officials take them close to the 'scene of the action' and consequently into an area of relatively greater risk. Officials voluntarily carry out their duties and legally thereby accept the additional risk inherent in the duty which limits any remedy at law available to the official should injury occur.

Motorsport UK has effected personal insurance applying at events held under Permit or Certificate of Exemption. Personal accident policies pay the pre-agreed levels of benefit to persons injured if an accident occurs within in the terms and conditions of the policy.

The motorsport UK policy includes cover for:

  • Officials.
  • Competition License Holders.

This insurance is operative during any competition and/or official practice session at an event run under permit issued by Motorsport UK or for which a Certificate of Exemption has been issued or run in accordance.

Risk management guidance

Risk Management is the process of systematically identifying, analysing, treating and ultimately reducing or eliminating those risks to an organisation. In many cases, an official, a volunteer or a participant will find they manage risk on a day to day basis simply by applying a degree of common sense.
slected option
Three categories
  1. Risk Assessment
Once risks have been identified, they must then be put through a process of assessment based on the severity of the possible loss and probability of the loss occurring. In many cases this can be relatively simple based on factual data. Where the factual data is not available a Risk Management Plan, compiled in conjunction with expert advice from specialists can assist in the calculation.
Factual data and proven statistics are used as the primary source when making a Risk Management Assessment. Expert opinion and educated are the next step using what information is made available. Completing this exercise is important as it will give organisers of events and decision makers a comprehensive list which can then be prioritised.

  2. Risk Calculation
There are several theories as how best to quantify risks, which result in numerous different risk formulae, but perhaps the simplest and most widely accepted is:
Rate of Occurrence x Impact = Risk

  3. Risk Treatments
Once risks have been identified, assessed and prioritised there are four major treatments or steps that can be taken to deal with the risk exposures:
  • Avoidance (elimination)
  • Reduction (mitigation)
  • Retention (acceptance)
  • Transfer (buying insurance)
