Competitors

Are you travelling abroad?

A repatriation benefit of up to £50,000 is provided to members competing, officiating or attending an event abroad. However, for this to apply, there is a requirement to notify Motorsport UK in advance.  Furthermore, this should not be confused with a travel insurance policy, which is highly recommended as typically provides higher repatriation cover and includes medical expenses.

Who is covered?

  • Licensed competitors, attending UK based events that are organised or approved by Motorsport UK.

What insurance cover is provided?

The policy provides cover for Motorsport UK participants that are authorised to compete within the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland and elsewhere in the world subject to the issue of a Motorsport UK permit or certificate of exemption. The period of cover is 12 months from the 1 January each year and includes:

  • Public liability - Limit of Liability £100,000,000. Public liability is defined as any person injuring another or damaging another's property as a result of acting negligently, this may result in an action for compensation being brought against them. Motorsport UK has arranged public liability insurance to protect participants against this potential legal liability.

A £500 liability policy excess applies to each and every claim (with the exception of claims for third party injuries).

  • Personal accident -  Motorsport UK has effected personal accident insurance applying at events held under Permit or Certificate of Exemption.

From 01 January 2026 the suite of benefits to competitors has been enhanced, please refer to the Useful Downloads section below for a list of the benefits.

Cover is operative whilst any individual licensed competitor excluding free of charge RS Clubman is attending a motorsport event organised by Motorsport UK, including Racing, Testing and Practice including travel to and from the events. Worldwide cover is included whilst under a permit issued by an FIA recognised ASN where the competitor concerned holds the appropriate grade of license. You must notify Motorsport UK of participation prior to the event. Personal accident policies pay the pre-agreed levels of benefit to persons injured if an accident occurs within in the terms and conditions of the policy. The benefits are detailed below and top up options also available.

Medical Repatriation Expenses are limited to within Europe only for competitors.
